Summarize this article

We’re launching DualEntry Tasks, one place for finance teams to track and manage the work happening across onboarding and day-to-day accounting through to continuous close and month-end.

Close management has come a long way. What once lived in spreadsheets, trackers, and someone’s memory has moved into dedicated workflows, while automation has started taking more of the repetitive work off finance teams’ plates.

Yet the layer keeping track of all that work often still sits slightly apart from the accounting itself. The books move, while a checklist somewhere else waits to catch up. As more of the underlying work becomes automated, that gap becomes harder to ignore.

Tasks is our way of bridging that gap. Instead of treating the close board as another layer to maintain, it stays connected to what is happening inside DualEntry.

Not another checklist to babysit

There’s nothing wrong with a checklist. Finance teams obviously need to know what’s open, what’s waiting, who owns what, and when somebody needs to step in.

The problem is when that checklist becomes a kind of shadow ledger for the close, carrying its own version of what has and hasn’t been done.

Tasks avoids that by tying the board to the underlying accounting work. When something changes in DualEntry, the task can change with it, without somebody having to go back and update the tracker by hand.

You can be as in-the-loop as you want

Some of the work inside Tasks can already be handled by agents.

For example, you can ask DualEntry to send the CFO a daily activity summary, chase overdue invoices, or take on recurring work that otherwise comes back around every month. Describe what needs to happen, choose when it should run, and the result returns to Tasks for review.

You decide how close you want to stay to the work. Every run carries an audit trail, approvals still land with a human, and the system can carry more of the routine load without turning the books into a black box.

Continuous close instead of a month-end crunch

Tasks is part of a broader push to make the close something that happens throughout the month rather than something the team has to frantically assemble from scratch once month-end arrives.

When approvals keep moving, bank match queues keep moving, scheduled work runs when it should, and exceptions surface earlier, there is simply less left waiting when it is finally time to close.

The idea is to keep the useful parts of close management while stripping away as much of the clerical upkeep as possible, because lean finance teams should be spending their time moving the close forward, not documenting every step after the fact.
